Abstract
A cutting speed effect on the roughness parameter R
a
in stainless steel surface turning is
described in the paper. The peculiarities of the formation of the surface layer micro-geometry of
parts from corrosion-resistant steels are specified. An effect of changes in thermal parameters of the
machined material when the cutting speed changes, is revealed. An idea of using a natural tool-
workpiece thermocouple signal from the cutting zone in mathematical models for calculating a
roughness parameter as a factor in regression models, taking into account the variation of
thermophysical properties of the tool and the workpiece is proposed. Mathematical models of the
formation of the surface roughness parameter Ra with regard to the cutting speed factor are
developed. An algorithm of automated calculation of the Ra parameter for a CNC system and the
CAD TP module is also proposed.
