Influence of interlayer on dissimilar steels welding joint

The object of research is a compound of the elements of railway switches obtained by flash butt welding. The

main problem is the low crack resistance of compound that caused by the formation of martensite structure. There were

used an additional barrier layer between chromium-nickel and carbon steels to improve the reliability of the welded

joint. This layer reduces the diffusion of carbon and alloying elements. There were conducted structural investigations

of welded joints without barrier layer and with insert of steel 20 of different trickiness. In addition, the structure of flash

was studied. Structural investigations of welded joints were carried out using the Carl Zeiss Axio Observer Z1m light

microscope. Microhardness measurements were taken by the Wolpert Group 402MVD tester.
