Abstract
This paper analyzes effect of complex alloying on the coefficient of linear thermal expansion
(CLTE) of alloys Al-Si. In addition, the role of crystallization conditions of ingots (i.e.
crystallization speed) is discussed.
It was found that alloying with magnesium induces reduction of the CLTE of Al-11% Si in low
and high temperature intervals considered during experiments. Moreover, further alloying with such
elements as Be, Cu and Zr causes even a stronger reduction of the coefficient of linear expansion in
the temperature intervals considered. When alloying ingots of Al-Si-Mg-Be with Cu and then
pouring them into a metal mould the observed reduction of CTLE was the largest.
